We support safe birthing
We support safe birthing for all families in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester Counties, especially for those who often suffer health disparities in birth outcomes, both for mother and child. Along with our partner, The BEE Collective, we want to see maternal and infant mortality & morbidity reduced for families of color regardless of their educational or socioeconomic backgrounds. As part of this, we encourage families to explore the use of a trained doula in their birthing process. The use of doulas, who are trained to provide physical, emotional, and informational support to women during labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period, has been shown to provide a host of benefits, including fewer requests for pain medications; better pulse, respiration, and appearance of the baby immediately after birth; improved postpartum mental health; and more. If you'd like to explore the use of a doula in an upcoming birth of your own or someone you know, please contact the BEE Collective online, by phone at 843.405.7607, or via email at [email protected]. |
